ดอก : ดอกช่อ ออกที่ปลายกิ่ง มี 2 พันธุ์ คือพันธุ์ดอกสีขาว และพันธุ์ดอกสีม่วงน้ำเงิน เกสรตัวผู้ยื่นพ้นกลีบดอกออกมายาวมาก [1]

ดอก : เป็นช่อที่ยอด สีขาวอมม่วง หรือสีฟ้า บานจากล่างขึ้นไปข้างบนเป็นชั้นๆ คล้ายฉัตร แต่ละชั้นมีดอกเล็ก ๆ 6 ดอก เกสรตัวผู้เป็นเส้นยาวยื่นออกมาคล้ายหนวดแมว เกสรสีขาวตรงปลายมีติ่งสีน้ำเงินอมม่วง [6]

ดอก : เป็นช่อมีลักษณะคล้ายฉัตร เป็นขั้นๆ สีขาวหรือสีม่วง มีเกสรตัวผู้ยาวคล้ายหนวดแมว [3]

ต้น : พืชล้มลุก พวกเดียวกับกระเพรา โหระพา สูง 0.3-1 เมตร ลำต้นเป็นสี่เหลี่ยม [6]

ต้น : เป็นไม้ล้มลุกขนาดเล็ก ลำต้นเป็นสี่เหลี่ยม [3]

ต้น : ไม้พุ่ม สูง 0.5-1 เมตร กิ่งและก้านสี่เหลี่ยมสีม่วงแดง [1]

ผล : ผลแห้ง ไม่แตก รูปรี ขนาดเล็ก [1]

ใบ : ใบเดี่ยว เรียงตรงข้าม รูปไข่แกมสี่เหลี่ยมข้าวหลามตัด กว้าง 2-4 ซม. ยาว 4-7 ซม. ขอบใบหยักฟันเลื่อย [1]

ใบ : ใบเดี่ยวออกตรงข้ามกันเป็นคู่ ๆ ขอบใบหยักสีเขียวเข้ม [6]

ผู้ป่วยโรคหัวใจไม่ควรใช้ เนื่องจากมีเกลือโปตัสเซียมมาก

ควรใช้การชง ไม่ควรใช้การต้มและควรใช้ใบอ่อน ไม่ใช้ใบแก่ เพราะอาจมีสารละลายออกมามากเกินไป ทำให้มีฤทธิ์กดหัวใจ

สารจากหญ้าหนวดแมวจะทำให้ยาจำพวกแอสไพรินไปจับกล้ามเนื้อหัวใจมากขึ้น จึงไม่ควรใช้หญ้าหนวดแมวร่วมกับแอสไพริน

การได้รับยาเกินขนาดจะทำให้ใจสั่น มึนงง คลื่นไส้ และเหนื่อย
