ดอก : ออกดอกเป็นกลุ่ม กลุ่มละประมาณ 3-6 ดอก มีกลีบดอก 5 กลีบ ดอกกว้างประมาณ 4 ซม. [1]

ต้น : เป็นไม้ล้มลุก เนื้ออ่อน แตกกิ่งจำนวนมาก สูงประมาณ 3 ฟุต [1]

ถิ่นที่พบ : เป็นพรรณไม้พื้นเมืองของหมูเกาะมาดากัสก้า มีถิ่นกำเนิดอยู่ในอเมริกากลาง ปัจจุบันมีขึ้รทั่วไปในประเทศที่มีอากาศร้อน [1]

ผล : เป็นฝัก รูปทรงกระบอก เมื่อแก่จะแตกออกเป็น 2 ซีก ภายในมีเมล็ดจำนวนมาก [1]

ใบ : เป็นใบเดี่ยว รูปไข่ เนื้อใบหนาสีเขียวเข้ม ออกเป็นคู่ตรงข้ามกัน ขอบใบเรียบ ปลายใบมน เส้นกลางใบสีเขียวอ่อน [1]
