ดอก : สีขาวออกเป็นช่อ แน่นบนแกนยาว เป็นช่อดอกเพศผู้และช่อดอกเพศเมีย มีใบประดับเล็ก รูปรี รูปไข่กลับ หรือรูปกลม ช่อดอกตัวผู้มีขนาดยาว 2-12 ซม. ก้านช่อยาว 1.5-3 ซม. เกสรผู้มี 2 อัน สั้นมาก ช่อดอกตัวเมียขนาดเท่ากับช่อดอกตัวผู้ แต่ก้านช่อยาวกว่า [2]

ต้น : เป็นพรรณไม้เถาเลื้อยยาว ก่อนที่จะปลูกพรรณไม้นี้ต้องหาค้างให้มันยึดเกาะ และจะมีรากเป็นกระจุก ออกมาตามเถาสามารถจับแน่น กันสิ่งที่มันยึดเกาะอยู่ [6]

ต้น : เป็นไม้เถา เนื้อแข็ง ลำต้นเกลี้ยง เลื้อยพันต้นไม้อื่น โดยอาศัยรากเกาะที่ติดตามข้อ [2]

ถิ่นที่พบ : ขึ้นบริเวณที่มีความชื้นสูง และมีอากาศร้อน มีถิ่นกำเนิดในอินเดีย [7]

ผล : เป็นผลสด อัดแน่นเป็นช่อมีเนื้อนุ่ม เมล็ดมี 1 เมล็ดค่อนข้างกลม [2]

ใบ : เป็นใบเดี่ยว ออกสลับกัน รูปไข่หรือรูปกลมแกมรูปไข่ กว้าง 2-10 ซม. ยาว 5-18 ซม. โคนใบกลมเบี้ยว หรือรูปหัวใจ ปลายใบแหลมหรือเรียวแหลม เนื้อใบค่อนข้างหนาเป็นมัน สดเขียว มีกลิ่นฉุนและรสเผ็ด เส้นใบนูนเด่นทางด้านล่าง ก้านใบยาว [2]

ใบ : เป็นใบเดี่ยว ใบอ่อนจะเป็นสีเขียว และใบแก่สีจะเข้มขึ้น ก้านใบมีความยาวประมาณ 5 ซม. จะออกตามเถาบริเวณตา ใบจะมีกลิ่นฉุน พลูนั้นจะมีหลายชนิดคือ พลูจีน พลูเหลือง พลูเขียว และพลูทองหลาง [6]
