ดอก : ออกเป็นช่อตามง่ามใบ หนึ่งช่อมีประมาณ 2-6 ดอก ก้านช่อดอกยาวประมาณ 1.5-14 ซม. ก้านดอกยาว 5-20 มม. เมื่อเป็นผลจะใหญ่ขึ้นเป็นรูปกระบอง กลีบรองดอกเป็นรูปขอบขนาน หรือรูปช้อนแกมขอบขนาน ตรงปลายมน คู่นอกยาวประมาณ 4-4.5 มม. คู่ในจะยาวกว่าเล็กน้อย ผิวเกลี้ยง กลีบดอกเชื่อมติดกันเป็นทรงแจกัน มีความยาวประมาณ 2-3 ซม. ปลายเป็นแฉกแหลม 5 แฉก ดอกมีสีแดง หรือบางที่จะมีสีขาว เกสรตัวผู้และเกสรตัวเมีย จะโผล่พ้นกลีบดอก เกสรตัวผู้จะมีขนที่โคน [1]

ต้น : เป็นไม้ล้มลุก มีอายุประมาณ 1 ปี ลำต้นจะพันเลื้อยพันกัน ลำต้นเล็กและเรียวมีผิวเกลี้ยง [1]

ถิ่นที่พบ : มีถิ่นกำเนิดอยู่ในทวีปอเมริกาเขตร้อน [1]

เมล็ด(ผล) : เมื่อผลแห้งจะเป็นรูปไข่ มีความยาวประมาณ 6-8 มม. เมล็ดเป็นรูปขอบขนานแกมไข่ มีความยาวประมาณ 5-6 มม. มีสีน้ำตาลดำ หรือ สีดำ [1]

ใบ : เป็นรูปไข่หรือรูปขอบขนาน มีความกว้างประมาณ 1-6 ซม. ยาวประมาณ 1-9 ซม. ขอบใบจักเป็นแฉกลึกเป็นแบบขนนก ข้างละประมาณ 9-19 แฉก ก้านใบยาวประมาณ 8-40 มม. โคนก้านมักมีหูใบปลอม [1]
