กลุ่มอับสปอร์ : เป็นกลุ่มเรียงตัวเป็นแถวอยู่ที่ริมเกือบสุดขอบใบ แต่ละกลุ่ม เป็นอับสปอร์เรียงตัวขนานกันเป็น 2 แถวติดกันที่ปลายเส้นใยใบ

ต้น : เป็นเฟินที่มีขนาดใหญ่ มีลำต้นเป็นหัวอยู่ฝังที่ระดับผิวดิน เป็นเนื้ออวบอ้วน ที่หัวมีร่องรอยบุ๋มรอบหัว ซึ่งเกิดจากขั้วของก้านใบที่หลุดออก เหลือไว้เป็นร่อง มองดูคล้ายกีบเท้าแรด สมชื่อที่เรียกว่า กีบแรด เคยมีคนบอกว่า เห็นที่เชียงใหม่ ขนาดของหัวใหญ่ เส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางถึง 1.5 ม.

ถิ่นที่พบ : มักขึ้นเองตามป่าชื้น หรือตามที่รกร้างทั่วๆ ไป [5]

ใบ : มีขนาดใหญ่ ยาวได้ถึง 10 ฟุต ขึ้นกับอายุและความสมบูรณ์ของสิ่งแวดล้อม ใบประกอบแบบขนนก 2 ชั้น ก้านใบใหญ่ อวบอ้วน ใบย่อยรูปขอบขนาน ปลายแหลม โคนมน มีก้านใบย่อยสั้น แผ่นใบหนา และสีเขียวสดเป็นมันเงา เมื่อต้นยังเล็ก ขอบใบหยักเป็นซี่ฟันลึก เห็นได้ชัดเจนกว่าเมื่อต้นโตมากขึ้น
