ดอก : ดอกช่อแบบ capsule ออกที่ปลายยอดมีขนาดใหญ่ ก้านช่อดอกยาว 50-150 ซม. มีดอกย่อย 20-35 ดอก กลีบดอกสีนวลแกมเขียว โคนกลีบเป็นหลอดสีม่วง แดงหนาย่น บานกลางคืนร่วงตอนเช้า [4]

ดอก : ออกเป็นช่อใหญ่ตรงยอด กลีบรองกลีบดอกมีความยาวประมาณ 2.4 ซม. มีลักษณะเชื่อมติดกันเป็นรูปทรงกระบอก เมื่อเป็นผล กลีบดอกจะมีเนื้อแข็งมากและค่อนข้างหนา ภายนอกจะเป็นสีม่วงแดง หรือน้ำตาลคล้ำ ส่วนภายในเป็นเปรอะ ๆ หรือสีชมพู ตรงโคนเชื่อมติดกัน มีลักษณะเป็นรูปลำโพง บริเวณปากลำโพงด้านในนั้นเป็นสีขาวอมเหลือง หรือสีขาวอมเขียว [1]

ต้น : เป็นพรรณไม้ยืนต้น ผลัดใบสูงประมาณ 4-20 ม. ลำต้นและกิ่งก้านมีรูระบายอากาศ กระจัดกระจายทั่วไป เปลือกเรียบเป็นสีเทา และบางทีก็จะแตกออกเป็นรอยตื้น ๆ เล็กน้อย หรือมีรอยแผลเป็นขนาดใหญ่ ที่เกิดจากใบที่ร่วงหล่นไปแล้ว [1]

ต้น : ไม้ยืนต้นสูงประมาณ 3-20 เมตร แตกกิ่งก้านน้อยกิ่งเปราะหักง่าย เปลือกลำต้นเรียบเป็นสีเทา บางครั้งพบแตกเป็นร่องตื้นเพียงเล็กน้อย มีรอยแผลเป็นขนาดใหญ่ที่เกิดจาก รอยร่วงหล่นของใบ ลำต้นและกิ่งก้านมีรูระบายอากาศ (lenticel) อยู่กระจัดกระจายทั่วไป [4]

ถิ่นที่พบ : ขึ้นตามที่โล่ง บริเวณชายป่าดิบ และไร่ร้างทั่วไป [15]

ผล : ผลแบบ capsule มีลักษณะเป็นฝักแบนยาวคล้ายรูปดาบห้อยลง (pendulous) อยู่เหนือเรือนยอดฝัก ฝักกว้างประมาณ 5-6 ซม. ยาวประมาณ 60-120 ซม. ภายในฝักมีเมล็ดจำนวนมาก รูปร่างแบนบาง มีปีกที่บางใสหรือมีเยื่อบางๆ อยู่ล้อมรอบ เมล็ดกว้างประมาณ 4-6 ซม. ยาวประมาณ 7-10 ซม. ไม่มี endosperm [4]

ใบ : ประกอบแบบขนนก 3 ชั้น ขนาดใหญ่ ใบเรียงตรงข้างชิดกันเป็นกระจุกที่ปลายกิ่ง ก้านใบยาว 30-200 ซม. ใบย่อยรูปไข่หรือรูปไข่แกมวงรี กว้าง 4-8 ซม. ยาว 6-12 ซม. โคนใบสอบกลมหรือรูปไตมักเบี้ยว ขอบใบเรียบ ปลายใบแหลม แผ่นใบสีเขียวเข้ม ก้านใบย่อยยาว [4]

ใบ : ออกเป็นช่อคล้ายขนนกประมาณ 2-3 ชั้น มีใบเดี่ยว ๆ ตรงปลายก้าน และเรียงตรงข้ามชิดกันเป็นกระจุกที่ปลายกิ่ง ใบย่อยมีลักษณะเป็นรูปไข่และรูปขอบขนาน มีความกว้างประมาณ 3-9 ซม. และยาวประมาณ 4-14 ซม. ส่วนตรงปลายใบแหลม และขอบใบนั้นเรียบ โคนใบสอบกลมหรือคล้ายรูปไต มักจะเบี้ยว ก้านใบมีความยาวประมาณ 0.5-2.0 ม. [1]
