ดอก : ดอกช่อ ออกที่ยอด ดอกย่อยขนาดเล็ก กลีบดอกสีขาว โคนติดกันเป็นหลอดสั้นๆ ปลายแยกเป็น 3 กลีบ กลีบใหญ่ที่สุดมีริ้วสีแดง ใบประดับรูปไข่ [2] [10]

ดอก : เป็นช่อตรงปลายยอด และตรงช่อนั้นก็จะจัดอยู่ด้วยกันอยู่อย่างหลวมๆ ช่อที่อ่อนจะมีกาบสีเขียวอมเหลืองหุ้มมิด (spathe) ส่วนดอกสีขาวอมสีม่วงแดงนั้นจะบานจากข้างล่างขึ้นข้างบน [4] [8]

ต้น : เป็นพรรณไม้ลงหัวจำพวก กะวาน เร่ว กะลา จะลงหัวใหญ่ ขาวอวบอ้วน เป็นพรรณไม้ที่ชอบขึ้นตามที่ลุ่ม [4] [8]

ต้น : ไม้ล้มลุก สูง 1.5-2 เมตร เหง้ามีข้อและปล้องชัดเจน [2] [10]

ผล : มีลักษณะกลมโต และมีขนาดเท่าเม็ดบัว เมื่อแก่จะมีสีดำมีเม็ดเล็กๆ อยู่ภายใน มีรสขม เผ็ดร้อน [2] [4] [8] [10]

ใบ : มีลักษณะรูปไข่ยาว ออกสลับกันรอบ ๆ ลำต้นบนดิน ซึ่งจะเป็นกาบของใบหุ้มลำต้น ใบคล้ายพาย ดอกเป็นช่อสีขาว แต้มด้วยสีแดงเล็กน้อย [4] [8]

ใบ : ใบเดี่ยว เรียงสลับ รูปใบหอก รูปวงรีหรือเกือบขอบขนาน กว้าง 7-9 ซม. ยาว 20-40 ซม. [2] [10]
