ดอก : ออกเป็นช่อ มีสีขาว ยาวประมาณ 10 ซม. [1]

ต้น : เป็นไม้เถาเลื้อย ลำต้นมีความสูงประมาณ 5 เมตร เกาะพันกับไม้หรือพืชอื่นๆ เถามีข้อปล้อง [1]

ถิ่นที่พบ : ปลูกกันทั่วไปในประเทศเขตร้อน เช่น บราซิล ไต้หวัน มาเลเชีย และในประเทศไทยปลูกมากแถบจังหวัดจันทบุรี [1]

เมล็ก (ผล) : ลักษณะกลม ออกเป็นพวงช่อทรงกระบอกยาว ผลอ่อนมีสีเขียว เวลาแก่จะเป็นสีเหลืองและสีแดง ภายในมีเมล็ดกลม สีขาวนวล [1]

ใบ : รูปร่างรี มีขนาดใหญ่ ยาวประมาณ 8-16 ซม. กว้างประมาณ 4-7 ซม. ปลายใบแหลม ขอบใบเรียบ ท้องใบมีสีเขียวออกเทา มีเส้นใบนูน หลังใบมีสีเขียวเข้ม [1]

หญิงมีครรภ์อ่อนๆ ไม่ควรกินพริกไทยมาก เพราะเป็นยาร้อน อาจทำให้แท้งได้

ผู้ป่วยที่ต้องควบคุมระดับยาในเลือด ควรระวังการใช้พริกไทยในปริมาณสูง

ผู้ที่มีอาการท้องผูก คอแห้ง เจ็บคอ ไม่ควรกินพริกไทย

5 ระวังในผู้ใช้ยาละลายลิ่มเลือด ยาต้านการแข็งตัวของเลือดเพราะจะเสริมฤทธิ์ยาได้

6. พริกไทยเป็นยาเพิ่มกำลังให้ตัวยาอื่นๆ อาจต้องระวังเรื่องการเสริมฤทธิ์กัน

6. ควรระวังการใช้พริกไทยในขนาดสูง เพราะมีรายงานความเป็นพิษต่อระบบต่างๆ ของร่างกาย เมื่อให้ในขนาดสูงและติดต่อกันหลายวัน

สำหรับผู้ที่ป่วยเป็นโรคตา ไม่ควรรับประทานพริกไทย

ผู้ที่เป็นโรคริดสีดวงทวารก็ไม่ควรรับประทานมากเกินไปอาจจะทำให้อาการของริดสีดวงทวารกำเริบได้
