ดอก : ออกเป็นช่อเล็กๆ ตามบริเวณง่ามใบ มีสีเหลือง ดอกช่อหนึ่งจะมีทั้งดอกเพศผู้และเมียอยู่ในต้นเดียวกัน ดอกเพศเมียกลีบดอกเป็นรูปค่อนข้างกลมมน โคนกลีบดอกเชื่อมติดกันเป็นหลอด ดอกเพศผู้กลีบเป็นรูปขอบขนาน ปลายกลีบหยัก กลีบดอกยาวประมาณ 0.5-1 ซม. [6] [7]

ต้น : เป็นพรรณไม้ยืนต้น ขนาดใหญ่ ลำต้นมีความสูงยาว 15-20 เมตร ลักษณะของลำต้นตั้งตรง ผิวเปลือกนอกค่อนข้างขรุขระแตกเป็นรอยสะเก็ดเล็ก ๆ มีสีน้ำตาลดำ หรือเป็นสีเทาแกมน้ำตาล และบริเวณเปลือกของลำต้นมักจะมีรอยแตกและมียางไหลซึมออกมา แห้งติด [5] [6] [7]

ถิ่นที่พบ : พบบริเวณป่าดงดิบ ทางภาคตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ และภาคใต้ของประเทศไทย [8]

ผล : มีลักษณะเป็นรูปกลมใหญ่ มีเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางประมาณ 5-8 ซม. เปลือกนอกมีผิวขรุขระ เนื้อผลค่อนข้างนุ่ม ผลอ่อนมีเป็นสีเขียว แต่พอแก่หรือสุกเต็มที่มีเป็นสีเหลืองส้ม ตะปุ่มตะป่ำผิวนอกมีขนคล้ายกำมะหยี่ เนื้อสีชมพู กลิ่นหอม รสเปรี้ยวแซมหวาน [4] [7]

ผล : เป็นผลรวม กลมแป้นใหญ่ เส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง 6-8 ซม. [3]

เมล็ด : แต่ละผลมี 1 เมล็ด รูปรี ติดผลเดือนมีนาคม-พฤษภาคม [3]

ใบ : มีลักษณะเป็นใบเดี่ยว ออกเรียงสลับกัน ใบเป็นรูปไข่หรือรูปยาวรี ปลายใบแหลม ส่วนโคนใบเว้ามน ใบมีขนาดกว้างประมาณ 2-8 นิ้ว ยาวประมาณ 4-12 นิ้ว ใบอ่อนมีขน แต่พอแก่ขึ้น ขนนั้นก็จะหลุดไปทำให้ใบเกลี้ยงเรียบ ใบแก่ มีรูปใบเป็นรูปไข่ หรือ ขอบขนานรี ริมใบเรียบ กว้าง 5-12 ซม. ยาว 8-15 ซม. ขอบใบหยักเป็นฟันเลื่อยเล็กๆ ใบแก่ขอบมักเรียบ หูใบเรียวแหลม [3] [6] [7]

ใบ : ใบเดี่ยว เรียงสลับ แผ่นใบรูปไข่กลับ รูปรี หรือรูปขอบขนาน กว้าง 2.5-7 ซม. ยาว 5-14 ซม. ปลายใบมนหรือเป็นติ่งสั้น โคนใบสอบแคบรูปลิ่มหรือมน เนื้อใบหนา มีขนสากมือ เส้นแขนงใบ 8-12 คู่ ก้านใบยาว 1-2 ซม. [4]

ห้ามผสมผงปากหวดกับน้ำร้อนดื่ม เพราะจะทำให้เกิดอาการคลื่นไส้ อาเจียน

ผู้ป่วยบางรายอาจมีอาการแพ้ มีผื่นขึ้นทั้งตัวทั่วร่างกาย ผิวหนังแดง ตาแดง มีไข้ ซึ่งอาการนี้จะหายไปภายใน 1-2 วัน
