ดอก : ออกเป็นช่อ บริเวณยอดของต้น หรือง่ามใบ ดอกมีสีแดง แยกเพศ แต่อยู่บนต้นเดียวกัน [1]

ดอก : ออกเป็นช่อที่ปลายกิ่ง ดอกมีสีเขียวหรือม่วงแดง ดอกแยกเพศ ดอกเพศผู้อบู่ด้านบนช่อ ส่วนเพศเมียอยู่ด้านล่างของช่อ กลีบเลี้ยงโคนเชื่อมติดกัน ปลาบแยกเป็น 5 หยัก [2]

ต้น : เป็นไม้พุ่มหรือยืนต้นขนาดเล็ก เปลือกต้นเรียบ สีน้ำตาล [2]

ต้น : เป็นไม้ล้มลุก มีอายุหลายปี มีทั้งละหุ่งแดง (ลำต้นและก้านใบเป็นสีแดง) และละหุ่งขาว (ลำต้นเป็นสีเขียว) [1]

ถิ่นที่พบ : เป็นพรรณไม้พื้นเมืองของประเทศอินเดีย มีปลูกทั่วไปในเขตร้อน เช่น แอฟริกา อเมริกาใต้ ยุโรปตอนใต้ [1]

ผล : ผลแห้งรูปไข่ ผิวมีหนมอ่อนทั้งผล [2]

ผล : มี 3 พูและมีหนาม เปลือกเมล็ดเป็นจุดสีน้ำตาลอมเทาคล้ายตัวเห็บ เนื้อในสีขาว [1]

เมล็ด : มีน้ำมัน [2]

ใบ : เป็นใบเดี่ยว รูปฝ่ามือ 5-12 แฉก ปลายแฉกแหลม ขอบใบหยัก ก้านใบยาว 10-30 ซม. [2]

ใบ : เป็นใบเดี่ยว ใบเป็นจักแหลม คล้ายฝ่ามือเป็นแผ่นกว้าง [1]

เมล็ดมีพิษมาก กินเมล็ดดิบๆ เพียง 4-5 เมล็ด อาจถึงตายได้ ถ้าจะนำมาใช้ทางยา ให้ทุบเอาเปลือกออก แยกจุดงอกออกจากเมล็ด ต้มกับนม และนำไปต้มกับน้ำอีกครั้งเพื่อทำลายพิษ
