ดอก : มีทั้งดอกเพศผู้และเพศเมียอยู่ในต้นเดียวกัน ดอกเพศผู้มีลักษณะค่อนข้างกลม ขนาดเล็ก ส่วนปลายท่อกลีบเป็นหยัก 5 หยัก และตรงกลางดอกก็จะมีเกสรตัวผู้โผล่พ้นท่อดอกออกมา ดอกจะออกบริเวณปลายยอด สำหรับดอกเพศเมียออกบริเวณง่ามใบ มีดอก 2 ดอก ดอกเพศเมียอยู่ชิดกันเป็นคู่ๆ ในกระเปาะกลมรี ทางตอนล่างของช่อ ไม่มีกลีบ มีริ้วประดับเป็นรูปรี ตรงท่อเกสรตัวเมียจะแยกออกแฉกยาว [1] [2]

ต้น : เป็นพรรณไม้ล้มลุก ที่มีลำต้นสูงประมาณ 1 เมตร ลักษณะลำต้นตั้งตรง กิ่งก้านของมันมีขนขึ้นประปราย [1] [2]

ผล : มีลักษณะเป็นรูปไข่หรือรูปรี มีความกว้างประมาณ 6-12 มม. ยาวประมาณ 10-18 มม. ปลายผลมีจะลอยแหลม 2 อัน พื้นผิวมีหนามยาวประมาณ 1.5-2 มม. ผลไม่มีก้าน (แต่ละกระเปาะมี 2 ผล ผลละ 1 เมล็ด) [1] [2]

ใบ : เป็นใบเดี่ยว เรียงสลับ มีลักษณะคล้ายรูปสามเหลี่ยม ใบจักเว้าเป็น 3-5 แฉก ริมขอบใบหยักเป็นซี่ฟันปลา เนื้อใบบาง พื้นผิวหลังและใต้ท้องใบหยากสาก ใบมีขนาดกว้างประมาณ 1.5-5 นิ้ว ก้านใบยาวประมาณ 1-4 นิ้ว [1] [2]

ในเมล็ดมี xanthostrumarin glycoside ซึ่งเป็นพิษต่อสัตว์ สารนี้จะคงอยู่จนถึงระยะที่เมล็ดงอกเป็นต้นอ่อนมีใบเลี้ยงติดอยู่ เมื่อใบแท้เริ่มเจริญเติบโตไกลโคไซด์จะลดลงอย่างรวดเร็ว สารพิษนี้ไม่สลายตัวแม้จะตากแดดให้แห้งแล้วก็ตาม
