ดอก : ออกเป็นช่อ หรือเป็นพู่ มีลักษณะคล้ายกับหางกระรอกขึ้นอยู่บริเวณกลางกอ ช่อดอกยาวประมาณ 2-10 นิ้ว มีดอกย่อยเรียงสลับกัน รอบ ๆ แกนกลางช่อ ดอกมีสีขาวอมเหลือง หรือสีม่วง [3]

ดอก : ออกเป็นช่อทรงกระบอกยาว 5-20 ซม. เส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง 1.5-3 ซม. ดอกย่อยอยู่ติดกันแน่น [1]

ต้น : เป็นพรรณไม้ล้มลุก จำพวกเดียวกับหญ้า มีเหง้าอยู่ใต้ดิน ลำต้นที่อยู่เหนือดิน มีความสูงประมาณ 1-4.5 ฟุต [3]

ต้น : เป็นพืชจำพวกหญ้า มีลำต้นใต้ดินเป็นเส้นกลมสีขาวทอดยาว มีข้อเห็นได้ชัดเจน ผิวเรียบ หรือมีขนบ้างเล็กน้อย แตกกิ่งก้านสาขางอกเป็นกอใหม่ได้มากมายหลายกอ [1]

ถิ่นที่พบ : เป็นวัชพืชที่ขึ้นลุกลามตามไร่ซึ่งปราบได้ยากชนิดหนึ่ง พบขึ้นเป็นทุ่งทั่วไปตามที่ร้างต่าง ๆ ตามหุบเขาและริมทางทั่วไป [2]

เมล็ด : เวลาแก่จะหลุดปลิวไปตามลมแพร่พันธุ์ไปได้ไกล ๆ หญ้าคาที่ขึ้นในทุ่งหญ้าจะออกดอกในฤดูร้อน หญ้าคาที่ขึ้นในที่ชื้นแฉะจะออกดอกปลายฤดูร้อน หรือในฤดูหนาว หญ้าคาเป็นพืชชอบแดดและทนทานมาก เผาก็ไม่ตายดูเหมือนว่าไฟจะไปช่วยกระตุ้นให้มันงอกเร็วขึ้น และออกดอกแพร่พันธุ์มากขึ้นอีก [2]

ใบ : ออกเป็นกระจุก ตามบริเวณโคนต้น ใบมีรูปหอกเรียวยาว ริมขอบใบคม มีขนเป็นกระจุก ใบมีขนาดยาวประมาณ 100-200 ซม. กว้างประมาณ 1-2.5 ซม. [3]

ใบ : เป็นเส้นแบนยาวตรง แตกจากลำต้นใต้ดินใบยาว 20-50 ซม. กว้าง 5-9 มม. ใบอ่อนงอกใหม่ที่ยอด มีปลอกแหลมแข็งหุ้มยาวประมาณ 1 มม. งอกแทงขึ้นมาจากดิน [1]
