ดอก : ออกเป็นกระจุกที่ซอกใบใกล้ปลายกิ่ง กลีบดอกด้านนอกสีแดงแกมม่วง ด้านในสีนวล [1] [3]

ต้น : เป็นพรรณไม้พุ่มแกมเถา ลำต้นมีความสูงประมาณ 3 ถึง 6 เมตร ลำต้นนั้นจะโตเท่าต้นหมากผิว ของลำต้นจะเป็นสีเทา ๆ มีหนามแหลมและสั้นตลอดทั้งต้นและตามกิ่งก้าน [2]

ต้น : ไม้พุ่มแกมเถา กิ่งก้านมีหนาม ยอดอ่อนมีสีแดง [1] [3]

ถิ่นที่พบ : เกิดตามธรรมชาติทั่วไปในป่าในประเทศไทย [6]

ผล : เป็นผลสด ค่อนข้างกลม [1] [3]

ใบ : เป็นใบรวมรูปขนนก ส่วนใบย่อยจะเป็นรูปไข่ มีครีบตรงก้านใบ ใบอ่อนนั้นจะมีสีแดง ใบจะมีรสขม [2]

ใบ : ใบประกอบ แบบขนนกเรียงสลับ มีครีบที่ก้านและแกนใบ ใบย่อยรูปวงรีหรือรูปไข่ กว้าง 1-1.5 ซม. ยาว 2-2.5 ซม. ขอบใบหยัก [1] [3]
